Classroom Environment

Classroom Environment is crucial for student success. Without the physical environment, we cannot achieve the higher lever of engagement, differentiation, quick and safe transitions, nor the cooperative learning that we know is imperative to student growth.

  2. while I don't have a classroom now..... if I reflect on my last classroom ...
I am rocking a print rich classroom environment. I have always been passionate about making my classroom reflect what the students are learning. Anchor charts and student work were always complimented with text (fiction and nonfiction) so that you could walk in and say WOW this class is totally studying (fill in the blank here with something totally awesome related to a standard**that was always important**). But I was crazy :) but did you expect anything less..... you could walk in my room one week and see Greek Gods and Goddess of Olympus and the next week a monkey hanging from vines in our rainforest. I used my classroom to hook students into what we were studying and keep the content engaging.
I could grow in using technology in a meaningful way, I still say I taught best from supplies in a paper bag. I envy teachers who incorporate technology into daily lessons and strive to find ways to integrate it purposefully into what I do.

  3. Basically, I think I can grow in all areas on this list. But I know I definitely teach to the standard...so there's that. But I definitely need to grow in being more consistent with small groups in Reading and Math - other than SIT (that we always do). Soooooo,
I am rocking "Instruction is Standards based" in my physical environment.
I can grow with "Data Notebooks and small group documentation present" in my physical environment.

  6. In reflecting on my last classroom, I loved establishing a classroom environment where I established designated areas for small group instruction and individualized feedback. I loved incorporating shared values and character across subject areas! This developed a beautiful culture within my classroom where I could personally meet individual student needs.
I ALWAYS worked on improving my posting of meaningful anchor charts throughout the classroom. (My handwriting is not the neatest.) I learned to utilize student created anchor charts! ;)
